Getting here
Let's get you here.
One airport, ten minutes out. Easy.
Buffalo Niagara
Right down the road and rarely busy. Rental return takes ten minutes.
Rochester
Only if the fare really wins. It's a straight but long shot down the Thruway.
Wheels recommended 🚗
You'll want a rental car here. Rideshare shows up eventually, but the wait near the facility can be hit or miss.
All drive times are approximate — traffic gets a vote.
Stay
Sleep well.
A few places we'd recommend when you're in town.
Hampton Inn Buffalo-Airport/Galleria Mall
Concur Most Preferred and the standard stay here. Minutes from the airport and the plant.
Hilton Garden Inn Buffalo Downtown
Off-contract option when you want to be downtown for dinner.
Book through Concur — it stays the system of record.
Eat & drink
Hungry?
This city punches way above its weight on food.
Anchor Bar
Where the wing was invented. Touristy, still worth doing once.
Charlie the Butcher's Kitchen
The local sandwich, done right, and you'll spend about twelve bucks.
Bar-Bill Tavern
Ask any local for the best wings and they'll say this. Expect a wait.
Buffalo Proper
Nicer sit-down downtown that still lands inside the dinner allowance.
Public Espresso + Coffee
Inside the old Lafayette Hotel. Worth the detour on the way in.
Got some time?
Got some time?
If you've got a free evening, here are a few places worth checking out.
Canalside
Waterfront boardwalk with food, music in summer, ice skating in winter.
Albright-Knox / Buffalo AKG Art Museum
Genuinely world-class collection in a beautiful building.
Niagara Falls
Half an hour north. If you've never seen it, go — bring your passport just in case.
Useful nearby
Need something?
Wegmans
Upstate New York's favorite grocery store. Great hot bar for a cheap dinner.
Walgreens
Basics and anything you forgot to pack.
Good to know
A few things the locals know.
Lake effect is real
December through March, a storm can drop a foot on one neighborhood and skip the next. Build in buffer.
Border crossing
Canada is 30 minutes away. If you might cross, bring your passport.
Game days
Bills home games gum up the Thruway south of town on Sundays.
Local tip
Order the wings, but don't call them Buffalo wings here. Just wings.
